Dr. Santiago Viteri

Researcher at Instituto Oncológico Rosell

"The most important and effective treatment is prevention and to detect cancer as early as possible. Lung cancer is a type of cancer that does not have clear symptoms and it is complicated to fight once has spread. It is clear what is the first step to take: Do not smoke. We cannot assure that a smoker will suffer lung cancer but we can say that the majority of the cases of lung cancer are from people who smoke. We do not need technology to help to avoid lung cancer, we just need to keep away from tobacco,” said Dr. Santiago Viteri researcher at The Instituto Oncologico Rossell in the Universitari Dexeus Hospital. Last year more than 28,000 new cases were diagnosed with lung cancer."

"It has been a different and a pleasant experience to have Ricky Rubio as an ambassador to our activities during the whole school year. Despite the fact that Ricky is far away in Utah, we have felt him really close to us thanks to his constant messages and his team always by our side. Today, our children from Associacio Esportiva Ciutat Vella are wearing your t-shirt with pride, passion and respect. All the people involved in this project feel that sport is a necessity to educate children socially. For the little ones it is the best way to prepare them for real life. Thanks to basketball they are learning how to navigate through life, how to make their own decisions and most importantly how to make decisions knowing that they will have consequences not only individually but on their team, family and school.”

"I have gone through the difficult circumstance of living with a family member affected by lung cancer. It is complicated, but it is worth it if for some moments you can get the patient to stop thinking about it and have a good time. At least for me, playing sports has helped me overcome this."
