The award is promoted by NBA to encourage players to take part in community projects or help in different charities.

In November of 2017, Ricky Rubio was awarded with the Community Assist Award thanks to his active participation to raise awareness of lung cancer and his help supporting young disadvantaged people. It was a great reward for his social commitment. As important as the hope that he has of competing in the semi-finals west conference with his team, Utah Jazz.
